what happens if the free sites go out of business,,,, do you lose your blog?
Well I would think you will.
many bloggers will switch to wordpress. :D i think
There should be a notification. So just switch host by then.
I wouldn't lose my blog, I'd just lose the tips from it.
I think by then should have quite a few free host coming out like Xanga etc.
There will be someone doing the free service always. Although, blogspot is run by Google, and I dont see any chance they are going out in next 10 yrs(atleast). If google can run famous but in great lose YouTube for free, blogger is returning them a lot of revenue, why they will consider closing it.
Always BACKUP! Never expect free lunch from anyone on internet.
You will lose your site and everything you posted.
That is why I host my own blogs.
I believe many people will go out of business if blogspot goes out of business. Many people's blogshops will no longer be there and they have to find another platform like wordpress.
Google will never do this.
Because they are earning allot of profet through Blogger
You will loose your blog.. so if you anticipate this circumstances, you need to backup your blog.. :D Just switch host by then.
I don't think it will go off. Its a google made think, not a joke.
Google is a listed company and a very profitable company. I dont see how they can shut down. I dont see why they want to close down blogspot too. The only problem is that they dont delete blogs that have no update for years. Those bloggers may be dead, yet their blogs are taking up cyberspace, and laying claim on the blog name.
i donnot know why there are many free blog sources are out of service.what i wrote has disappear. it is very disappointing.some sites even cannot be opened.may be there are too many unrelated information in it.
they wont , i guess...
if they, we wud definitely loose our work..
Don't believe it will be going anywhere...blogspot blogs advertise many of the ads that Google sells...ads are how Google makes money. If Google decides they don't like money I guess they will close blogspot. I would say back up your blog just in case Google decides they don't like money anymore:D
Who knows if it may ever happen? It is a free service with so many users. It doesn't make revenue sense to give so much support to a system unless they earn from it. I suspect they will eventually take the Wordpress route and start charging for various stuff.
I used blogspot for a few years, switched to WP and am now fully self hosted.
I'm quite sure it's safe to use blogspot for atleast 5 more years.
And if you haven't got your own website by then, chances are your blog is not worth spending time on x'D
Google arn't going to shut down blogger any time soon. But if they did, they'd give people notice so they could transfer their material elsewhere.
Yahoo closed Geocities last year and they gave all users plenty of time to shift their stuff
lol that wud be a disaster
How does one go about switching hosts? Backing up posts?
They might go to a pay format in the future but I certainly wouldnt think they would completely shut down. At least not anytime soon. They would lose a lot of adsense revenues. But then again it is google. The adsense revenues from blogspot are pennies compared to what they make on a daily basis.
I don't think blogspot will be out of business because it's running by google.
Does blogger blogs come with auto backup feature? Sorry for the noob question, but I'm more familiar with Wordpress.
backup your blog on a daily basis. If you're that afraid its going to happen. Purchase a domain name for like $10.00 USD, get hosting for your domain and restore your backup. Then you won't have to worry about it. Don't go with a cheap host. Especially for a blog using wordpress or some other blog script. They can sometimes be heavy. I recommend starting with a VPS, just so you don't have to worry about a shared webhosting company suspending your site after traffic gets a little heavy or if you have a spike in visitors one day. Then you have to worry about it happening again and you will start looking for a VPS. Don't go for the cheapest company you find. You get what you pay for!
